What, I'm done?!?!

Well, I have to admit that this whole Discovery 2.0 learning module has been pretty enlighening. I have learned many things along this discovery journey and quite proud of myself in accomplishing the program. There are a few things that I would, and probably will, use often...can I get a G-E-N-E-R-A-T-O-R!?!?! LOVED the generators portion of the assignment. The things I probably disliked the most was having to register for everything and fear loads of junk mail in my inbox. All in all, it was great. I learned a lot, and who doesn't enjoy being a bit more wise? ;) It's been fun!!

Yep, meet fLinda. She's one of the gals at the library who frequently puts on knee high boots and flies around the stacks. She's a cool cat, though some of the teens say she's "hot." At this time she's had over 7,000 views ... "check" her out!

Yep, I've been searching through Web 2.0's site of award winning lists and discovered blogniscient. They claim that they track "news that's all the buzz in blogs they rank the "best" of the blogosphere." It was very user-friendly and would recommend anyone who enjoys getting news from blogs to check it out! Just visit: http://blogniscient.com/

Zoho Writer and other applications

So I tested out the applications online that allow one to create a document and export files into other word processing programs. Zoho is a nifty little tool in the event you want to create a document and the computer someone is working on doesn't have a specific program. In my opinoin, it's neat though I hope I never have to really utilize it for a project. :D

Wikis

In week 7 of the Discovery 2.0 online learning module, I learned of Wikis. Though I think it is a nice way to locate, add, edit, delete information - and done so by anyone - I fear that this is not a concrete source of information, for credible sources are unknown. I don't feel that an educated professor would allow such a site be used as a source for a paper or integrative essay due to lack of credibility. Just my opinoin...

Libraries and Communities

I read an article today about libraries and communities, and in the article it talked about how libraries ARE communities. Boy, isn't that true. That article goes right along with McCracken County Public Library Director, Marie Liang's, way of thinking too. She once said in a meeting that libraries are slowly becoming community centers, and I think that she was 100% true. It's always nice to believe in one thing, and then when reinforcement and validation is present, it's even better!

Tagging, etc.

I've completed the readings on tagging, folksonomies and technoati and could see a great benefit in utilizing those capibilites while searching. This would espcially be helpful and beneficial to an information librarian when conducting research.

Throughout the entire Discover 2.0 learning, these are perhaps the most helpful items that pertain to my job. HOWEVER, personally, I'm still thrilled w/ the generators and look forward to playing around with them more at home!

LibraryThing

Though I'm not a great lover of books, I am, however, a fan of specific authors. In combing through LibraryThing, I found it a very helpful tool for those who read thousands of books AND for those like me who read few. I particularly enojyed the ability to put specific titles on my "virtual shelf" so that I can have a running list of titles I wish to read. Plus, I also found it very useful to be able to link up to others who have read the titles, for they may be an advid reader and can suggest books of similar nature or interest. Here's one of my all time favorite author - the author of classic love stories...

I always wondered how people added text to pictures with such a professional look. Now I know!! How cool. I certianly can do a lot of damage w/ the ideas that are running through my mind right now, utilizing this newly-discovered tool on the Internet! Fab-u-lous.

So, I've done some extensive reading on RSS and all I have to say is - wowser! What an awesome feature to utilize! Seriously, anytime you can cut the crap and get to the meat of the text is great!

Little Man isn't so little anymore...

As I was carrying Layton in the womb I was told by both friends and stangers to enjoy it [the baby] while I can because they won't be small for long.

How right they were. I cannot even begin to tell you what an amazing journey the first year has been with little man around. It is such an odd feeling to sit back and watch this 2 foot tall creature run around the house and speak his language, of which only Momma can understand. Just feels like yesterday when I was being ever-so-gentle, making sure his head didn't bob around... Today we roughed house - he loves being thrown in the air, scaling the stairs and spinning in circles. It's crazy... At any rate, he is a blessing...my small blessing that continues to grow each day and amaze me every step of the way.

To the upper right is a picture of "little man" at the ripe age of 6 months, and below is a picture how he is growing - 14 months. I'm glad to be able to share him with you through the wonderful amazement of modern technology; Within seconds a picture can be taken, uploaded to the web, and shared with family, friends and co-workers.
